It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of the passing of Makenna Mikesell, our beloved athletic trainer, cherished coworker, and dear friend. Her untimely death has left an undeniable void in the lives of everyone who knew her, especially within the Kokomo School sports community.

Makenna was the epitome of compassion, always showing up for her students and colleagues with an unwavering patience, strength, and an abundance of love. As an athletic trainer, she devoted herself to the well-being of the students, providing them not just with expert care, but with a heartfelt kindness that made them feel seen and heard. “Makenna cared so deeply for her students,” one colleague reflected. “She always showed up with so much heart.”

But Makenna’s compassion extended beyond the classroom and training room. Her love for animals was well known, and she dedicated her time to fostering and rescuing animals, often helping to supply our classroom with much-needed donations. “She really was awesome,” one friend remarked, highlighting her selflessness and commitment to giving back.

Her absence will be deeply felt, especially in the everyday moments that made her so special to those around her. “I’ll miss her visits to my classroom for kitty therapy,” a colleague shared through tearful words. “I’ll miss her laughter as we cackled about silly work things, her thoughtful check-ins, and the way she made me feel valued.” It was in these small, personal moments that Makenna’s impact was truly felt—her presence brightened every room she entered, and her genuine care for others was felt by everyone she encountered.

Makenna was not just a colleague but a beloved member of the Kokomo School family. She was a staple in the athletic department and a friend to all. Her loss leaves a profound hole in the hearts of the community, one that will be felt for years to come. “She was such a huge part of the Kokomo School sports community,” another colleague said. “Her absence will leave such a deep hole.”

As we mourn the loss of this incredible woman, our hearts and thoughts go out to the Mikesell and Brown families, who are enduring unimaginable grief. Makenna’s husband, Mr. Mikesell, is our Agriculture teacher, and her father-in-law, Mr. Mikesell, is our Welding teacher. Both will need our unwavering support and encouragement as they begin the difficult process of grieving.

During this incredibly challenging time, we ask for privacy and respect for the Mikesell family as they navigate this heartbreaking loss. “If you pray, please pray. If you believe, please send love, light, and good energy to the entire Mikesell and Brown family,” said a close friend, urging the community to come together and offer whatever support they can.

Makenna, you were more than just a coworker and a friend—you were a light in the lives of everyone you met. You will be dearly missed, and your legacy of kindness, compassion, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know you.

Rest in peace, Makenna. You were so loved, and you will never be forgotten.
